Happy New Year! We hope you’ll join us as we jump into a new series on tried-and-tested ways to share the best news of all – the hope that can be found when we say ‘yes’ to Jesus.
Whether you like or loathe New Year’s Resolutions, we’re sure you’ll agree that now is a great time to discover new ways to share your story. We start the year with our most requested topic: how do I share my testimony with confidence and clarity?
You may have attended her seminar on sharing your five-point testimony but new for 2022, Becky Burr offers her straightforward but life-changing advice on how to share it in fifteen seconds!
My mouth went dry, my head went fuzzy, my knees went shaky…
‘So why are you a Christian?’ she asked.
I had been praying for my friend for months, years even, and wanted the opportunity to share with her but when the question came I didn’t know what to say! My brain went blank, I didn’t have the words…
Have you been there? I am sure you have. Well, I have good news – it may not always be easy but it is simple! Sharing what Jesus has done in your life can be powerful and uncomplicated and easy to communicate. In this blog, I want to share with you how to share your testimony in 15 seconds!
But first, let’s look at the Bible:
In John 4 the Samaritan woman has a powerful encounter with Jesus and without being prompted rushes into her town to share what happened. It says in verse 39 ‘Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I ever did.’’ Her testimony was powerful because it told of Jesus and she had the boldness to open her mouth and share it, even in a town where she was looked down upon.
Everyone has a story about what they have been through, the highs and lows, that have brought them to where they are now. There’s nothing better than a story, especially when it is real and honest.
Maybe you think the story of how you came to know Jesus is boring or incomparable to others or not powerful enough. Yet your story is all about Jesus! And it is his story too, the story of how God sent Jesus into the world to save us. You have a story to share!
So how do you share it?
STEP 1 – Firstly, think about a couple of words that describe:
– what your life was like before you met Jesus
– What Jesus has done in your life
– what your life is like now
STEP 2 – Then fit those words into this structure:
There was a time in my life when I felt ____ and _____ .
Then I met Jesus and received his ____ and ____ and began following him.
Now I feel _____ and _______ .
There was a time in my life when I felt lost and broken inside. Then I met Jesus and received his love and began following him.Now I feel restored and confident.
There was a time in my life when I felt unfulfilled and not really happy. Then I met Jesus and surrendered my life to him and began following him.Now I feel fulfilled and I have joy and peace that comes only from Jesus.
There was a time in my life when I felt pleasure-seeking and self-centred.Then I met Jesus and received his forgiveness and began following him.Now I feel free to enjoy life with a purpose.
There was a time in my life when I felt angry and lonely. Then I met Jesus and received his grace began following him.Now I feel hopeful and alive.
